Effective July 9, 2026 · Covers laugh.so, Mid (midcomic.com), The American (theamerican.news), and Laugh track (pair.laugh.so)
Laugh labs is the family of comedy projects run by Telepathic. This page explains what we collect across those sites, why, and what your choices are. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the products, we never sell your data, and you can leave at any time.
What we collect
- Newsletter email. If you subscribe to the weekly, we store the email address you give us and which of our publications you want.
- Account details. If you sign in with Google (on The American or Laugh track), we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We never see your Google password.
- Activity. Reactions, votes, and reading activity — for example "funny / not funny" taps on Mid, likes on The American, and joke picks on Laugh track. When you're signed in this is tied to your account; otherwise it's tied to a random session identifier.
- Usage analytics. We use PostHog to understand how the sites are used (pages viewed, device and browser type). Our hosting providers keep standard server logs.
- Research studies. If you arrive at Laugh track through a research platform such as Prolific, your session is keyed to that platform's participant ID, not your name.
How we use it
- To send the weekly email. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
- To personalize what you see — for example stories picked for your taste on The American. Your taste profile can follow your Google account across our apps.
- To improve the products, including using aggregate reaction and vote data to train and evaluate our humor models.
- To debug problems and understand what's working.
What we don't do
- We do not sell or rent personal data.
- We do not run third-party advertising or share data with ad networks or data brokers.
- We do not collect more than the products need.
Who processes it for us
We rely on a small set of service providers, each bound by their own data-processing terms: Supabase (database and sign-in), Resend (email delivery), PostHog (analytics), Cloudflare (hosting and delivery), and Railway (background services). Data is shared with them only as needed to run the sites.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and local storage for sign-in sessions, to remember where you left off (for example your place in the Mid feed), and for PostHog analytics. We don't do cross-site ad tracking.
Retention and your rights
We keep your data while your subscription or account is active. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter with one click at any time. You can also ask us to access, export, correct, or delete your data — email us and we'll honor it promptly, in line with GDPR and CCPA.
Children
Our sites are not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update this page and note it in the newsletter.
