How this is measured
Why a joke can be scored
Humor has an objective and subjective component, like any creative discipline. Here we quantify the objective part.
Where the score comes from
Around 900 paid American adults rated jokes giving about 46,000 judgements. We trained a model on what they said, and see how you perform based on that rating behavior. Raters are screened to US residents, attention checked, joke order is shuffled, and anyone who rushes is dropped.
How accurate it is
Across 50 human raters, our judge matched the group's verdict about 72% of the time - actually even higher than what an individual from that group would do. It reads a room better than any one person, but taste is split, so treat the score as an estimate.
